Shopify Balance is a business financial account that lets merchants manage their money where they make it, so they can stay on top of their finances. Sounds like a bank account? The answer is yes, but I couldn’t say it legally. And this was my biggest challenge working on Shopify Balance. Making complex copy easy to understand despite many legal obstacles. I love challenges, and Shopify Balance was a big one.

A key goal of this project was to convince merchants to open a free Shopify Balance account, so they could manage their business and finances in one place. My work included creating all marketing content, from emails to landing pages and paid ads.

Throughout the process, I handled multiple stakeholders and incorporated new learnings into the copy. I worked closely with marketing designers, product marketing managers, UX researchers, and many others. This was a high-visibility project for Shopify and their first financial account for merchants.

Since its launch, Shopify Balance has experienced great success and continues to grow.
